YMCA Camp Manitou-Lin to Offer Free Summer Camp for Children of Military Service Members

GRAND RAPIDS, MI (March 24, 2014) YMCA Camp Manitou-Lin will offer free overnight camp to children of wounded, disabled, or fallen military service members, thanks to a recent partnership with Camp Corral. As one of only 18 camps chosen, YMCA Camp Manitou-Lin is the only camp in the state of Michigan offering Camp Corral to children from military families.

Camp Corral is a weeklong overnight camp experience where youth, ages 8 to 15, are free to explore the outdoors and be kids, far away from the special challenges they face in everyday life. Children are invited to participate in traditional YMCA camp activities such as camp fires, arts and crafts, boating, cabin activities, swimming, horseback riding, and more. Campers will be encouraged to create friendships and bond with other kids who share a similar family situation. Through interactions at camp and skill-building activities, the Y provides opportunities for kids to grow both mentally and spiritually.

“We are absolutely thrilled to provide a week of summer camp for children of our military service members. We can’t begin to thank the members of our military for their sacrifices, but we hope to show our appreciation by providing their kids with an experience they will never forget,” commented Karin Denman, Interim Executive Director at YMCA Camp Manitou-Lin.

This camp will be offered Sunday, June 22 – Thursday, June 27, 2014. Any child, age 8-15 from a military family, is eligible. Priority is given to children in a family with a wounded, disabled, or fallen service member.
